Today, women are being celebrated across the world. What could be a better way to do that than by introducing Sophie Lavaud whom we are sponsoring this year!
Sophie has already honoured the female gender by being the first Swiss woman to climb K2 in 2018 and the first Swiss and French woman to reach the summit of Annapurna I and Kangchenjunga. She has over time become a somewhat extraordinary collector: to have reached all peaks that reach above 8’000 meters!
Her target for this year? To complete her “collection” and climb the last four summits of the highest mountains in the world.
For her, an athletic achievement is not the only goal. Alongside each of her expeditions, she undertakes humanitarian actions for Terre des Homme, an organization for which she has been an ambassador since 2019.
Her next expedition, called “Women who Dare”, will be at the Dhaulagiri. Most of the participants will be women, and the event will support the project “Prayaas” in Nepal, which works to improve chances of survival for pregnant women and newborn children through better education and training of midwives in rural areas.
